Signed Griffo

Illustrating for the scriptwriters

With SOS Bonheur [SOS happiness] and Monsieur Noir [Mr Black], the author of the Giacomo C series illustrated some of the most important comic strip milestones of the last 30 years. A graduate of Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Griffo briefly took on the characters of the Modeste et Pompon series for Tintin magazine before branching out into the wider world. Returning to Belgium in the early 1980s, he stopped producing his excellent advertising sketches to try his hand at realistic comic strips, immediately imposing his own unique style inspired by the great French illustrators such as Moebius, Tardi and Bilal. From his very first attempt, the skill of his sketches won the hearts of scriptwriters such as Dufaux, Van Hamme and Cothias, who all snapped up the work of the illustrator of the "Giacomo C." series, which he had just relaunched much to the great delight of his fans.
